Baseball Swing Problems: Find the First Cause
A very important piece of the hitting puzzle, in Coach Bass's words, is that the ball will tell you exactly what you are doing. These guides start from what parents and coaches usually see: a swing and miss, a rolled-over ground ball, a hitter who pulls off, a hitter who is late. Each one explains what Coach Bass looks at first and why, what the hitter works on, the drill that trains it and the program that develops it. Every guide is written from Coach Bass's own teaching and published only after he approves it.
Problem guides
- Late on the Fastball: What Coach Bass Looks at FirstWhen a hitter is late, Coach Bass looks first at the load and at whether the hitter is a see ball, hit ball hitter with no plan.
- Pulling Off the BallCoach Bass looks at where the hitter's momentum is going. The fix is one thought: take the second baseman's (righty) or shortstop's (lefty) cap off with a line drive.
- Rolling Over: There Is No Such Thing as a Roll OverCoach Bass does not treat the rollover as the cause. The hitter did not let the ball get deep in the zone and went out to get the pitch.
- Why Your Hitter Swings and MissesCoach Bass's main cause of swinging and missing is attack point: a middle or away pitch attacked as though it were inside, so the bat is not long enough.
